| Up
and coming performances by Celtic Spirit. |
|
|
| Celtic
Spirit will be appearing at “Thee Wedding Show” at Murrayfield
stadium on 03th and 04th of October. This is the first major wedding
show for Ilka Events and the band are great friends of Paula and Charmaine
who own the company. We are sure this is going to be a great success.
The band hopes to meet as many people as they can at the show and
we hope to see you there. |

|
| Rough
wedding |
|
|
Celtic
Spirit were very happy to play at the wedding of Alan Rough and
his lovely bride, Maggie at Solsgirth House near Dollar on the 12th
of September. The band performed outside on the lawn and were lit
up by floodlights. It was a surprise for all the guests and was
a great success. Alan joined us with a set of pipes specially prepared
for him and we belted out flower of Scotland with a couple of jigs
which Maggie performed a highland dance to. The whole night was
great and we partied the night away with the rest of the Real Radio
crew. |

| The
Duke of Wellington - Cambridge |
|
|
Celtic
Spirit once again travelled south of the border to the Duke of Wellington
in Willingham in Cambridge to be part of their bank holiday music
festival. This was the third time the band has performed at the
Duke and they have a real following now in that part of the world.
The owners, Fran and Barry made us feel very welcome, as always
and we hope to be able to make it four in a row next year. |
|

| Real
Radio – 04 & 08August |
|
|
Celtic
Spirit were invited on to Real Radio to take part in the football
phone in with Ewan and Roughie. The band performed live on the show
on both nights and were joined by Roughie for a couple of sets which
went quite well. Ewan, Roughie and Victoria have become real friends
of the band and we can’t thank them enough for the opportunity
to be on the show. |

| Barra
Fest |
The
very popular Barra music festival was held in the last weekend
in July just outside the lovely village of Castle Bay on
Barrabados.
It was classic Scotland with the Friday night blowing a
force 10 gale and the Saturday night being a lovely Scottish
evening.
Celtic
Spirit played 3 sets over the 2 nights and were happy to
be included with popular local acts, The Vatersay Boys and
Nollie as well as the excellent Face the West and Skerryvore.
It
was a fantastic weekend for the band which saw Jason taken
to hospital with a suspected broken ankle and Brian proving
that singing is not a career he should consider. This did
not stop the band rocking the marquee and the crowd were
delighted. |
|
|
|
Tully
Inn |
The
band played as part of the Balloch Folk Festival at the fantastic
Tully Inn. The whole night was a roaring success and the locals
partied until one in the morning. |
| |
Clan
Gathering – July |
| Celtic
Spirit entertained the First Minister and his guests at the Great
Hall in Edinburgh Castle. The guests included Clan Chiefs from all
over the world who had returned to mark this special occasion. The
band played a few sets and were warmly received by the foreign dignitaries
and the politicians that were in attendance. |
| |
| Pontins
– July |
| Celtic
Spirit were booked to play 5 gigs at the Pontins Holiday Parks in
Blackpool, Southport and Prestatyn. This was an enjoyable experience
for the band and the gigs went very well. The first week we played
was Scottish week and the audience were full of Scottish people going
over the border for their holidays. |
| |
| Simon
& Tama’s Civil Partnership |
| Celtic
Spirit were pleased to be asked to play at their good friend’s
Simon and Tama’s civil partnership at the Oran Mor in July.
They provided a piper in full highland dress during the day and played
at the evening reception. The whole day was a wonderful occasion and
the band would like to wish both of them every happiness in the future. |

|
It has been a very busy April/May for Celtic Spirit and we have picked
out some of the highlights, from the Tennents Scottish Cup Final to
playing at Edinburgh Castle for the First Minister to appearing on
STV for the first time. It has been a great couple of months and if
you crossed our path I hope you enjoyed our performance.

Tennents Scottish Cup Final - 30 May 2009 |
The
band played for the fourth time on the pitch at Hampden as the teams
came out the tunnel, but this time it was Rangers and Falkirk that
were playing instead of Scotland. The Rangers fans gave us a good
spirited welcome on hearing the name of the band, but Jason had
been on Real radio to explain that the name was not football related.
We were able to meet Walter Smith, Ally McCoist and John Hughes
after the game and we were very lucky to be able to hold the Scottish
Cup itself. We had a great time playing on the pitch and the sun
shone on Mount Florida for this homecoming Scottish cup. The pictures
in the gallery will give you an idea of how much fun we had and
a few ales were drunk afterwards in celebration.
We are already looking forward to playing at the Macedonia and Holland
matches later in the year for what could be a great occasion for
the Scottish team and fans. |

The Hour Show - 29 May 2009 |
Celtic
Spirit were delighted to be asked to perform on the first Friday
show of the brand new Hour show on STV. We were joined by piper
James Craig who will be helping the band in the future with some
gigs. We had a great day at the studios, getting make up done, sitting
on the news desk and of course performing. We chose our ' We will
rock you' set and were able to get it all done in one take. We were
very pleased to be introduced as one of the hottest piping acts
in Scotland and were very pleased with the performance. We would
like to thank the make-up woman who definitely had her work cut
out and all the staff at STV for making us feel so welcome in what
was a great experience for the band. We hope you caught the performance
and please look at the gallery for all the pictures of the day. |

Stenna Launch - Edinburgh Castle -19 May 2009 |
Celtic
Spirit were asked to perform at Edinburgh castle to assist in the
celebrations for the new ferry route from Rosyth to Zeebrugge being
opened by Stenna Line. This was a very grand occasion in the Grand
Hall of the Castle and was attended by the First Minister, Alex
Salmond. We were delighted to meet him again and we were able to
chat to him and get some pictures. He was most disappointed that
we did not have some Scottish dancers with us as the last time he
saw us at the Heroes Awards we had a couple of dancers with us.
He has asked us to perform at the Castle in July for the Clan Gathering
which we are really looking forward to. |

Burns Festival - 16 & 20 May 2009 |
Celtic
Spirit were delighted to be asked once again to open this years
Ayrshire Burns festival at the Burns Heritage Centre in Alloway
on the 16th of May. The Lord provost of Ayr was in attendance and
the weather was kind as the official opening ceremony took place.
The band played a few short sets to entertain the dignitaries and
were well looked after. The band also performed at the Heritage
Centre on Wednesday the 20th of May along with other artists as
horseman rode from the village depicting the famous scene from Tam
o Shanter. There was a temporary stage set up and a decent crowd
to welcome all the riders to the centre. |

Fraserburgh Concerts -16/17 May |
Celtic
Spirit performed over 2 nights in Fraserburgh by invite of Andrew
Reekie and the Blue Light festival which celebrates the contribution
of the local emergency services. The 300 seater hall was a perfect
venue for a concert and was well attended.
On
the Saturday the band had to travel up from Alloway after performing
at the Burns Festival and we were delighted to have the van back
after a couple of problems. We were joined on the Saturday by an
excellent youth orchestra playing traditional Scottish sets and
we were joined on stage by their fiddle player and bass guitarist
for a rousing number.
On
the Sunday we were delighted to be joined by the Fraserburgh Pipe
Band who were celebrating finishing 3rd in the Scottish Pipe Band
Championship. With no practice we played Highland Cathedral and
Glasgow City Police together and everyone had a great time.
Fraserburgh
is a smashing wee town and if you get the chance you should pay
it a visit. We would like to thank Andrew and the Blue Light Festival
committee for all their help in organising the trip and making sure
we were well looked after. The vodka was appreciated!!

Kidney Research Dinner - 08 May |
Celtic
Spirit were invited to perform at the Kidney Research Dinner at
the Thistle hotel which took place to raise funds for Kidney Research
UK. The charities patron, Angela Rippon chaired the night which
was hosted by Suzie Maguire of Radio Clyde and it was a great success.
Celtic Spirit performed a half hour set around 11pm and got the
place really jumping and we were fed and watered and made to feel
very welcome by the organiser, Heather who sat us with her very
friendly family. We hope the night raised thousands for the charity,
especially after a couple of people who suffer from Kidney failure
gave very emotional speeches about how the money would help their
daily lives. I am not sure if we would be as brave as these people
clearly were.

Stothard Wedding - 25 April |
The
band were delighted to play at the wedding of Hazel Mills and John
Paul Stothard in the lovely east coast village of St Abbs. Jason
and Steven led the bride and her father through the town before
the ceremony in what was a very moving part of the day. Hazel's
grandfather was harbour master in the village and Hazel threw a
part of her bouquet off the pier into the sea in memory of her grandfather.
The reception was in Berwick and we had the unique situation of
playing at the wedding during the day in Scotland and the reception
at night in England. We had a great time at the wedding and were
made to feel like part of the family. We hope they enjoyed their
honeymoon and have a great future.

|
Scotland v Iceland |
Celtic
Spirit performed for the 3rd time at Hampden Park in front of 50000
Scotland fans before the kick off of the game. We were joined on
the pitch by Ronnie Brown who once again did an excellent Flower
of Scotland.
Jason
and Brian were interviewed on Real Radio by our new best mate Ewen
Cameron and we had a real laugh with the guys. We took our usual
position on the pitch 15 mins before kick off as the ground was
really starting to fill up and it is difficult to explain the buzz
that was going round the ground.
We
played our set of 'She Moved Through the Fair' followed by a couple
of thumping jigs and it was great to see the crowd jumping and clapping
along. We had to stop before the teams came out the tunnel because
FIFA wanted their tune played as the teams walked out but this did
not dampen our enthusiasm as we got an overwhelming response from
the fans.
It
was difficult to sing Flower of Scotland with the lumps we had in
our throats. We were able to enjoy the game and meet some of the
players afterwards and the whole occasion was superb. We have been
approached to play at the Scottish Cup Final so hopefully we will
see some of you again from the pitch at Hampden in May. |

| Holland
V Scotland |
We
have made some real friends in the Real Radio Team and spent the
majority of the weekend with Ewen Roughy and Victoria. We would
like to thank them from the bottom of our hearts for all their help
and support on and off the show and for being great company and
we hope we can meet them again in the future while playing and just
socially if they fancy a beer.
Thursday
(We'll be Coming)
Celtic
Spirit were delighted to be asked by the Tartan Army, the Scottish
Sun and Real Radio to go to Amsterdam and play at the fanzone. The
trip started by coach from Glasgow to Harwich where we caught the
ferry. Before boarding we visited a local Morrisons and played the
whole bus right into the store. The security guard took one look
at us and thought it was time for his break as 50 of us led by the
band marched straight to the alcohol aisle. The locals loved the
music and the colour of all the boys and news of the mini invasion
quickly spread throughout the tartan army. Hopefully the clip will
appear on you tube at some point. We played in the ferry terminal
prior to boarding but outrageously we were not allowed to play on
the ferry in case we woke the passengers that were not in the bar.
That did not stop the party and we were in Holland before we knew
it.
Friday
(Taking over the Town)
Celtic
Spirit ventured into the Dam Square to join the tartan army in the
mother of all parties. The square was full of fans and the locals
who seemed to love the occasion. We played in the square for about
an hour and drew a large crowd before being moved on. We then went
to the Europa bar to take part in the Real Radio Phone In. We were
interviewed on the radio and played a tune inside the bar. This
was not easy as the place was absolutely packed but the atmosphere
was incredible.
Saturday
(The big day)
Celtic
Spirit were one of the main acts to play at the Fanzone at the Terminal
in Amsterdam. We again joined the Real Radio show and were interviewed
and performed on the show. We did 3 sets on the main stage and it
was the experience of a lifetime. We were joined on stage by Ewen
Cameron and Alan Rough who sang Flower of Scotland with the band
and added to the great occasion. The whole event was organised by
Iain Emerson of the Famous Tartan Army magazine and we would like
to thank them for thinking of the band and their support whilst
in Amsterdam. If you get the chance you should look them up on www.famoustartanfootball.com.
This was one day the band will never forget. We did not get the
result we were hoping for but that did not stop the party and we
can only imagine the carnage if we had won.
Sunday
(The long road home)
It
was a shaky bus that left Amsterdam for the ferry home. We were
not allowed to play on the boat again so it was a quieter trip home.
We still had a great time and it was really nice way to bring the
trip to a close. |

Who Do You Think You Are |
Celtic
Spirit were asked to open this event at the London Olympia on what
was known as Scotland Day. The Clan Gathering 2009 booked the band
to represent them at the event and we would like to thank Lucy-Rose
Walker for all her help in making this happen. The event was a large
show where you could go to get information about tracing your family
tree and there were stands from all over Britain. The Saturday was
called Scotland Day in recognition of this homecoming year and the
band entertained the crowds as they waited to get in to the event
and played inside to mark the opening. We stopped the traffic regularly
and also played for Radio London although we think we gave them
a fright as it was at 8am and most of London was sleeping. |

Harrods |
Celtic
Spirit were delighted to play in the famous Harrods for a third
time entertaining the shoppers on a busy Saturday afternoon. We
were delighted to meet Mr Al Fayad once again and he toured the
store with the band. We also played outside at the request of Mr
Al Fayad and we were delighted with the reception we received. Mr
Al Fayad explained that he wants shopping in Harrods to be an experience
as opposed to just normal shopping and there were also opera singers
performing on one of the main stair cases. Mr Al Fayad was very
generous to the band and we have made a real friend.

|
Albannach |
Celtic
Spirit were delighted to play again at Albannach, a very popular
Scottish bar in Trafalgar Square, right in the centre of the the
English capital city of London.
The band played 3 30 minute sets throughout the evening and the
atmosphere was excellent with people moving seats to dance (sometimes
quite strangely) to our thumping sets.
The
staff made us very welcome and we were delighted to draw such a
large crowd as the night went on. After we played we made our way
to the nightclub downstairs as we thought it would have been rude
to leave early :-) We met some great people there and hope that
they stay in touch with the band through the website. |

Royal Concert Hall Wedding Show |
Celtic
Spirit had a stand at the Royal Concert Hall Wedding Show on 14/15
February. They were delighted to be once again involved in the fashion
show, closing them all with a 5 minute sample of what we can offer
at a wedding reception. This went down very well with the audiences
and we were delighted to meet loads of people at our stand. We hope
that we will see some of you on your big day. We would like to thank
paula for her assistance with the show. Jason had a better show
than most meeting the lovely Claire the band would like to wish
them all the best in there new found relationship its early days
but hey onlay Jason can go to wedding show & meet someone.

|
Blackpool Showcase |
| Celtic
Spirit were invited to play at a showcase in Blackpool in front of
300 agents to show what the band could do and to publicise our act
to a wider audience. This was a very nerve wracking event for the
band as it was an English audience and we were not sure how our unique
brand of Scottish music would fair on the other side Hadrian's wall.
Needless to say we did not need to worry as we blew the audience away.
We created great interest in our act and have been approached by a
number of agents looking to put us on their books. |

ENABLE Scotland Burns Night |
| Celtic
Spirit closed the ENABLE Scotland Burns night at Stirling Castle in
what was a prestigious event on the 250th anniversary of the birth
of Robert Burns. The event was held in the Grand Hall which was an
amazing location to play in. Other entertainment included Ricky Ross
of Deacon Blue and the usual Burns speeches. There was a real sense
of history playing in the hall and our style music was the perfect
way to bring their excellent night to an end. The band then led the
guests from the Grand Hall out of the castle in the traditional way.
The weather was grim but there was no way the band were going to let
the night end without the traditional parade. The night was a great
success and a lot of money was raised for the charity and the band
were delighted to be involved. |
 |
| |
|
Celtic
Spirit would like to wish everyone all the very best for 2009 and
we hope that we get the chance to meet as many of you as possible
in the coming year.
December
December
is always a busy month for Celtic Spirit and this year was no exception.
From Christmas parties to Hogmanay and a wedding we have been all
over the central belt and had a great time. |

| Oran

Celtic
Spirit brought in the bells at the Oran Mor on Byers Road.
We played all three venues and really enjoyed ourselves at
the ceilidh on the top floor. The bar was packed and it was

| Hogmanay
in the Day |

Celtic
Spirit were involved in the very first Hogmanay in the Day
at the Moss of Balloch.
The
event was organised by West Dunbartonshire Council and featured
the MacDonald Brothers and the Raggle Taggle Gypsies as well
as Celtic Spirit. There was a crowd of between 1500-2000 on
what was a very cold day but the event was a great success.
We
would like to thank Jim McKelvie of West Dunbartonshire Council
for all his help with this gig. Your Radio covered the event
and you can see the story on their website.

| Glenskirlie
Hotel Christmas Parties |
|
Celtic
Spirit were delighted to be involved in the Christmas celebrations
at the Glenskirlie Hotel. The band played at 12 parties in
total both in the castle and the house and we had a great
time. We opened six parties at the castle and played before
the house band disco at the house. If you were there thanks
for all your support and we hope you enjoyed your evening.

| Enable
Scotland |
|
Celtic
Spirit were delighted to support the ENABLE Scotland night
held at Clydebank Town Hall on 20 December . The night was
organised to raise money for the charity and there were some
excellent auction prizes on offer. Jason did bid for the signed
football but was beaten at the last by a very late bid.

Celtic
Spirit had an excellent November, playing at 2 weddings, the Oran
Mor sponsored whisky awards, a charity event for St Andrews in Fraserburgh,
a night at the Wellington Arms in Ayr and of course the most amazing
night at the Scotland v Argentina football match. We have also purchased
our first van and are in the process of making it look part of the
band. Look out for it on the road in its distinctive black and red
colours and give us a wave. Read on for the full story.

November - Hamden Park - Scotland V Argentina |
|
Celtic
Spirit were delighted to be asked back to Hampden Park for the Scotland
v Argentina football match by the SFA.
This
was another fantastic occasion for the band. All the media attention
was on the new Argentina manager, Maradonna who had a press pack
following his every move.
We
were not able to meet the man himself but were close enough. Brian
was luck enough to meet Ozzy Ardilies and you can see all the pictures
on the gallery.
We
were delighted to be asked to perform at half time as well as playing
for the teams coming out and we hope the 32,000 fans enjoyed our
set - we certainly did.
We
will hopefully see you all again at the Iceland game in April.

Celtic
Spirit opened the Oran Mor sponsored Scottish Whisky Awards which
was held on the 20th November at the Oran Mor, Glasgow.

| St
Andrews Night 2008 |
|
Celtic
Spirit were delighted to be asked to go to Fraserburgh to play at
a benefit night for Keith Bruce. The band played two nights at the
Station Hotel in Fraserburgh and were made very welcome by the owners
and all the staff.
The
first night was a back to basics performance in the bar of the hotel
and Jason gave an amusing history of the band as we played every
tune in the box. The second night was the Stars in Your Eyes benefit
which was very well supported and we were delighted for Keith that
it went so well and wish him good health.
We
would also like to thank Andrew Reekie for his support and booking
the band to play at a concert in Fraserburgh in May. Its a 2 night
event on Saturday and Sunday of the 16/17th May and tickets are
still available for the 17th. Get in touch if you would like to
go.

a fantastic evening.
We
were joined by the lovely rockettes and the band Fun House and the
night was hosted by the excellent Des McKeown (pictures below).

We
were delighted to be asked to play at the opening of the new Debenhams

| Scotland
v Norway International Football |
|
Celtic
Spirit were thrilled to be asked to play at Hampden for the Scotland
Norway game.
This
was one of the biggest gigs the band has ever done and we would
like to thank Colin and Karen at the SFA for asking us to do it.
We
played at the side of the pitch as the teams came out of the tunnel
and it was amazing to play in front of 55000 fans.
We
also featured on Sky and BBC1 and hopefully you saw us there.
We
were able to meet Ronnie Brown who is a hero of ours and that was
very special.
We
also got the opportunity to meet some of the players and George
Burley after the match.
Needless
to say this was one of the best days the band has ever had.
We
will be getting footage of the day soon and will put it on the site.

The
band had a well earned rest and went their separate ways for a holiday.
However,
we did play at an exclusive event for 24 management and guests of
Halifax Bank of Scotland in Beauly near Inverness.
This
was at Beaufort Castle, which was an excellent place, once belonging
to the Frasers but now owned by Ann Gloag. We really enjoyed this
event which was more intimate than we are used to.

| Live
‘n’ Loud |
|
On
30 August the band visited the beautiful island of Islay once more
to host a concert at the Ramsey Hall in Port Ellen.
Celtic
Spirit were delighted to be joined by Cora who are an excellent
band from Edinburgh and surrounding parts.
We
brought our own bar and buffet with us and spent most of Saturday
preparing the buffet with the invaluable help of Islay Bell and
big Kenny as well as Ian on the door.
The
hall and the buffet looked fantastic on the night. We loved playing
in the hall especially when we played with Cora which was an amazing
set.
We would like to thank everyone who bought tickets and came to the
night and we hope that you enjoyed yourself as much as we did.

| The
Duke of Wellington |
|
Celtic
Spirit appeared for the second time in Cambridge at the Duke of
Wellington’s bank holiday hog roast.
This
is a fantastic day and we were lucky for the second year in a row
to have a beautiful day.
We
had a great time again and hope the large crowd enjoyed our Scottish
style of music.
We
were certainly made to feel very welcome and Fran and the rest of
the gang did a great job to put it all together. The hog roast tastes
fantastic and if you get the chance to go to one we would highly
recommend it.

| Pipes
of Peace |
|
On
12th August Celtic Spirit held its second Pipes of Peace concert
at the excellent Oran Mor.
This
year we were delighted to be joined by the Patiala Pipe Band from
Pakistan for a second time, the St Mary’s Pipe band from Australia,
the excellent Fred Morrison & the solo piper, Alex Gandy from
Canada.
We
were also joined by the SNP MSP Stuart McMillan who his himself
a piper and often practices in the Parliament and the lovely Miss
Scotland and her family who helped us present a few gifts to the
other players.
The
day was split into two parts. During the day Celtic Spirit Pipe
Band, the Patiala Pipe Band and the St Mary’s Pipe Band held
a parade on Dumbarton Road in Yoker to try and expand the piping
festival outside the centre of Glasgow where all the events seem
to be focused.
We
were made very welcome by the Yoker resource centre who helped us
by providing a buffet and a place to stay dry as it was quite a
wet afternoon. They also helped us with mini buses to ferry the
bands around in and we can’t thank them enough and hope they
thought it worth the effort.
At
night we all moved to the Oran Mor in what turned out to be a fantastic
evening of piping music which was enjoyed by a near full house.
The
standard on display was truly excellent and the night was a complete
success. We would like to thank all the participants who helped
establish this night as a successful part of the piping festival.
We
made some new friends and reacquainted ourselves with some old ones
and are already looking forward to Pipes of Peace 2009.

trip was arranged to coincide with barrafest and the island was
packed with people.
We
were lucky with the weather for the whole weekend and played outside
on the ferry journey which was a beautiful trip.
Barra
was a lovely looking island when we arrived and we were made very
welcome at the Isle of Barra Hotel where we had great rooms and
great food.
We
played all day on Saturday and really enjoyed it.
The
beach next to the hotel is spectacular and you could have easily
thought you were in the Caribbean.
We
would like to thank Joan and her mum and dad for all their hospitality.
We
were also delighted to be asked to play at Castlebay Hall at a fundraising
event for the football team. The main band on the night were called
Face the West and they were excellent.
We
played 3 sets and were delighted to play with Face the West on our
final set which we really enjoyed.
We
were delighted with the night and are already looking forward to
returning next year.

| West
End Festival |
|
Another
great day on Byers Road on the Oran Mor stage where the band performed
twice in front of a great crowd.
This
is a great event and we are always delighted to play here.
The
Oran Mor always makes us feel very welcome.
There
were some good acts throughout the day to keep the large crowd entertained
and the festival procession was as colourful as always.

| Meeting
the First Minister |
|
Celtic
Spirit were thrilled to be asked to go to the Scottish Parliament
to meet with Alex Salmond, the First Minister of Scotland.
We
had met the First Minister at the Scottish Independence Convention
Burns night and again at the Daily Record Young Scot Awards where
he asked us if we were interested in taking part in some Homecoming
gigs in 2009.
We
were really surprised to be asked to meet him in his office and
we thoroughly enjoyed the whole day.
As
you might imagine a band like ours is all in favour of independence
but talking with Mr Salmond about the goings on in the Parliament
and his plans for Homecoming was really fascinating.

| Burns
Festival |
|
We
were invited to play at Wellington Square in Ayr as part of the
Burns festival.
There
was a big marquee set up in the middle of the square that held around
250 people.
We
opened the night and Celtic Spirit pipe band took to the stage.
There was a 15 minute set from the Spirit and we all really enjoyed
the occasion.
The
night was headlined by the Red Hot Chilli Pipers who did a storming
set. It was nice to be on the same bill as people did not ask us
if we were the red hot chillis for a change.
We
were also delighted to help launch the event in February at the
Burns cottage where we were joined by Karen Dunbar and the provost
of Ayr.

| The
QUO |
|
Celtic
Spirit opened the Status Quo concert at the Ayr Racecourse on the
Saturday night as part of the Burns festival.
This
was an amazing experience for the band and the Quo were top drawer.
We
met the band prior to playing as well as the Jam who were excellent.
We were able to watch Status Quo from the musician’s area
with the Jam which was a real treat.
There
was a 5,000 crowd watching the Quo which was slightly more than
watched us play earlier in the day.

| Blair
Castle Burns Night |
|
The
band were happy to take part in a Burns night play held at Blair
Castle and hosted by John Murtagh, the star of River City and
numerous films.
The
night was an exclusive event for 80 guests held in the fabulous
surroundings of Blair Castle. The play described the life of Robert
Burns and involved John as narrator and Iain Robertson of Small
Faces fame played the part of Robert Burns.
The
band provided music throughout the play along with various other

| The
Young Scot Awards |
|
The
band were delighted to be asked to play at the Sunday Mails Young
Scot Awards at the Trade Halls in the Fruitmarket.
The
band played prior to Jenny Falconer taking her place on the stage
to conduct the ceremony. The audience seemed to really enjoy the
performance and we were delighted to play an encore.
We
were also pleased to see our picture in the Sunday Mail after the
event.
However,
the best part of the evening was meeting all the nominees especially
young Nathan Thomas who tried to help his mum who was being attacked.
He was also a breath of fresh air.
We
were also delighted to meet John Smeaton who was really down to
earth and a pleasure to talk to. See the pictures under stargazing
in the gallery.

Pipes of Peace Concert.
Celtic Spirit held our first "Pipes of Peace Concert" at the Oran Mor, Glasgow and it was a resounding success.
The sizeable audience were treated to performances by the Oran Mor Pipe band from Albany New York and the Patiala Pipe band from Pakistan as well as the Celtic Spirit Pipe Band and Celtic Spirit.
The night was opened by all the bands playing together and the sound from the 60 performers was very impressive.
The Patiala Pipe Band treated the audience to some traditional Pakistani music played on the pipes and some excellent drumming.
The Oran Mor pipe band played an excellent set of top quality music and Celtic Spirit did what they do best creating a memorable evening. The bands presented each other with gifts at the end and we made many new friends.
We would like to thank Colin Beattie of the Oran Mor for providing an excellent venue.

Scott Chalmers of R G Hardie for supporting the night.

|
|
We will add photos to the gallery as we get them from the various photographers that were there and look forward to the dvd which was kindly recorded by Watch the Birdie.

We would also like to thank Waheed for acting as an interpreter which helped us secure the services of the Patiala Pipe Band.
The point of the night was to bring two cultures together in a celebration of what we all have in common and the whole occasion created a great feeling of togetherness.
We are already looking forward to the 2008 concert and hope it is as successful as our first Pipes of Peace concert. |

Islay
Whisky Festival 26 May - 02 June |
 |
Celtic
Spirit would like to thank the people of Islay for the tremendous
support we received at the whisky Festival. (see picture taken at
Bruichladdich Festival) From playing off the ferry on Saturday to
playing on again the following Friday, (the bit in between is a bit
hazy) we had a real blast in true Islay fashion.
Saturday night the band performed in Port Charlotte at a private party
hosted by Bruichladdich. On Sunday we performed at the Bruichladdich
open day where the hand of God intervened again and provided a beautiful
day. The band played 2 sets and really enjoyed the whole occasion.
We
finished off at the Bowmore Hotel on Thursday where the band had
the pleasure of 30 odd ladies on a hen night and we had one of our
most enjoyable nights on the island. |

The
band would like to pay a special thanks to Cal Mac for letting us
play on the ferry, Jim McEwan for his generosity and continuing
support and the whole Bruichladdich team without whom we would not
be able to attend at all. Its
no wonder the sun shines over Bruichladdich.
We
are delighted that he has booked the band for next year and are
counting down the days. Neil and Andrew Woods for the loan of the
Mondeo which was a god send, Sally and Neil at the B&B in Glenegadale
for putting up with the aftermath of our nights out and Peter and
Linda of the Bowmore Hotel for the fantastic food and hospitality
and a great night out.
If anyone would like to book the band for next years festival the

Burns
Night
|
|
The
band spent its first ever Burns night outside Scotland in the fantastic
Albannach on Trafalgar Square.
We played on both the 24th and 25th of January and had an excellent
reception.
We
would like to thank Wayne, Sonia, Jim and all the gang for making
the trip so enjoyable. We even managed to invent a cocktail called
Celtic Spirit, which we hope will appear on their new cocktail menu.
To make one yourself you will need Bruichladdich (2 shots), Drambuie
(1 shot), strawberry liqueur, fresh mint, lemon juice and plenty
crushed ice. They are too easy to drink which is why we went straight
to the airport on Friday morning. |
 |
| |
If
you are in London and fancy some excellent food and drink you should
pay them a visit in Trafalgar Square.
We
also had the pleasure of playing in Harrods again to promote Burns
which we thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately the man himself was not
there this time but a great time was had. |

enjoyed our set with the 3 piece band. A special thanks to Last Tram
tae Auchenshuggle for their great music and Floral n Hardy for the
lovely table arrangements. We would also like to thank Jim Sergeant
for a very tasty buffet. Click
